Sunrise walk a wake-up call for mental health

The early bird will catch more than the worm at the Sunrise Walk for Wellbeing.

The annual walk to encourage locals to walk, talk and connect for mental health is hitting the airport perimeter for the third time, with views lit up by the day’s first light.

It will also be a chance to stroll the Airport Perimeter Walkway which has been closed to the public since February due to storm surges eroding parts of the track.

Health Action Trust mental health promoter Wendy Strawbridge said the event was just getting “bigger and bigger” with more than 300 pairs of feet walking the beat last year.

“I’m hoping to double it this year, I really am.”

She said mental illness had been in the media a lot lately, prompting people to think more about it.
